This is a brand new SW country towns tour added onto the SWTS Packaged tour list! The tour begins in Bunbury at 9:30am and heads southwest to Boyanup, located approximately 20 minutes from town. After an initial stop there for a morning tea, we’ll cruise down the South West Highway (Highway 20), otherwise known as the “Harvest Highway” because of its many organic and bio-dynamic farms, fruit orchards, local food and agricultural-based businesses.
If the tour is booked on the 4th Sunday of the month, the fabulous Boyanup & Districts Farmers Market is held that morning up to Noon and the South West Rail and Heritage Centre is open until 2pm.
On other days, the tour will leave Boyanup and head south on Highway 20 towards Donnybrook, stopping along the way at one or more of the fruit orchards to sample or buy seasonal fruit. Then it’s a visit into historic Donnybrook, where stops at the Visitors Centre, which is a former railway station, plus the local bakery where fresh baked fruit pies and pastries are available. If children are on-board then a stop at the Apple Fun Park, the largest free fun park in Australia is a must!
Just outside Donnybrook, other possible attractions include Solar Fruit, where dried fruit is made, Barreccas Winery, and Spring Valley Orchard where you can pick your own fruit if in season.
Further south are the towns of Kirup and Balingup. Balingup has several natural and agricultural attractions that depending on the season can be visited, such as the Lavender Farm (Sept – April), the Wright Bridge, a cheese factory, plus several unique local shops and art galleries.
On our way back home we’ll go back up through Kirup, then quickly divert West via the scenic Ryalls and Upper Capel Roads where our last few stops can be made at local vineyards or at natural attractions like Ironstone Gully Falls, which is especially nice to see during the Winter months. Finally, after a full day of touring we’ll arrive back in Bunbury at around 5 pm.
We truly hope that you’ll enjoy all the stops made in and around our unique South West country towns located along the “Harvest Highway”, as well as stops at the Geographe regional vineyards and will remember the food, the fresh fruit and the other attractions we visited that day!
