Harvest Highway Geographe Tour (Tour G4)

This is a 7 hour tour recently added into our packaged tours. This 7 hour tour begins in the Bunbury area at 9:30am, and operates 7 days pw, from Bunbury and heading southwest to Boyanup. After an initial stop there or in Donnybrook for morning tea, then we’ll cruise down the South Western Highway (Highway 20), otherwise known as the “Harvest Highway” because of its many organic and bio-dynamic farms, fruit orchards, local food & other produce and agricultural-based businesses.

If this tour is booked on the 4th Sunday of the month, the Boyanup & Districts Farmers Market is held that morning, from 8am to Noon, and the South West Rail and Heritage Centre is also open that day until 2pm.

On all other days, the tour will leave Boyanup and head south on Highway 20 to Donnybrook, stopping along the way at one of the fruit orchards to sample and buy seasonal fruit. Then, it’s a visit to historic Donnybrook, where stops include the Visitors Centre, which is a former railway station, plus the local bakery where fresh baked meat pies, fruit cakes, pastries and other goods are available. If children are on-board then a brief stop at the Apple Fun Park is essential, because it’s the largest free fun park in Australia!

Just outside Donnybrook, other attractions to visit may include Solar Fruit, where dried fruit is made, a wine tasting either at Barrecca’s or at Barton Jones winery, or a stop at the Spring Valley Orchard where you can pick your own fruit there, in season.

Further south along the Harvest Highway are the towns of Kirup and Balingup. Balingup has several unique shops and attractions located nearby, such as the Lavender Farm (from Sept – April), the Wright Bridge, a cheese shop, plus quaint local shops and art galleries to browse.

On our way back to Bunbury we’ll divert West via the scenic Ryalls and Upper Capel Roads where an afternoon stop can be made for wine tastings at a local vineyards or a visit to a natural attraction like Ironstone Gully Falls, in season, which is especially nice during the Winter months. After a full day of touring we’ll arrive back in Bunbury at around 4:30 pm.

Note: A slightly longer version of this tour, namely an 8 hour tour from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, would extend this tour out to Bridgetown, and includes additional tour stops at The Cidery plus visits to unique shops in Bridgetown, including Ooh, Ooh Lollipop and a Christmas store.
